An Interview With Laiton Knight
Kay: Tell me, Laiton, how does your day begin?
Laiton: My day usually begins with an early morning, a chance to gather my thoughts and get into the right mindset for writing. I’m most productive in the early hours of the day before the world can intrude. I sit in my office, surrounded by the familiar laptop and computer. I check messages to see if I have any story requests. If someone has asked for a story, I sit back and daydream. I let my mind wander.
Kay: Where do you get your inspiration and storylines from?
Laiton: Inspiration can come from anywhere. Sometimes, I overhear a snippet of conversation at the pub or watch a TV show. I imagine what happens after a scene from the show finishes. You know, a love scene where they show the build-up but cut before any action takes place. I toss it around until I can sit down and start writing.
Kay: Do all your stories come from your Secret Fantasy website?
Laiton: Ah, yes, my Secret Fantasy website. That’s a source of inspiration for me. I would say that 90% of my writing fulfils people’s fantasies via the website. The interactions I have with readers and the fantasies they share with me all fuel my own creativity. Sometimes, I’ll get a request from a reader that sparks an idea and turn it into a story just for them. Or, I might see a trend in the kinds of fantasies people are into, and I’ll write a story around that. It’s a fun way to connect with my readers and give them exactly what they want.
Kay: How would you describe your writing?
Laiton: That is a very good question. My ‘normal’ writing has been likened to Terry Pratchett because I introduce elements of humour and satire. But humour doesn’t work with erotica; it distracts from the purpose. My greatest influence is Hemmingway. It helps in reducing the adverbs and adjectives I use.
Kay: That is for ‘normal’ writing. Tell me what writing style you use when writing erotica.
Laiton: As I said, Hemmingway. But I need to analyse who I am writing for. If I am writing for someone who has asked for a fantasy about being romantically seduced. I will tend to be over-descriptive. I would use a slow romantic build-up before finishing with an explosive climax – pun intended. Whereas if someone has asked for a fantasy and they are looking for a quick read to masturbate to. I would have a short build-up before several climaxes – pun intended. It’s the difference between watching young lovers flirting in the park and knowing they will go on to make love. Or walking in on someone already fucking.
Kay (Blushing): You mean one style is implied, and the other is explicit.
Laiton: Almost. My stories always end with an explicit climax. The type you refer to as implied is a slower build-up. I am trying to seduce the reader so that by the end of the story, they accept explicit language and actions. I’m going to make you blush again. If I said, “You have a beautiful boobs.” I may be able to seduce you. If I said, “You have beautiful tits.” I would have no chance of seducing you. It is all about the language and the tone.
Kay (Still blushing): Right, enough about my breasts. Change of subject. What is the most popular niche you are asked to write about?
Laiton: Bisexuality is by far the most common. Most of the stories come from readers who would describe themselves as curious. I guess it is an opportunity to explore that side of themselves. All story requests come through to me anonymously. This helps them be more open in what they are requesting. Another popular niche is guys that want to be cuckolded or have a MMF threesome. That is a sign that the person is probably bi-curious at least.
Kay: I am going to put you on the spot now. What is your favourite erotica niche?
Laiton: Hmm, that’s a tough one. Now you are trying to make me blush. I think my favourite is probably exhibitionism and voyeurism. I have always been an exhibitionist. There’s something so thrilling about showing off or watching someone else show off, right? The power dynamics, the trust, the sense of vulnerability… it’s all so incredibly erotic. And, of course, I love playing with the taboo nature of it all. There’s something so deliciously wrong about it, which makes it appealing. But don’t tell anyone, it’s a secret.
Kay: Do you get aroused when writing erotica?
Laiton: Well, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t. Writing erotica is a very personal experience for me, and it’s hard not to get caught up in the emotion and desire of the story. Sometimes, I’ll find myself getting quite… shall we say, absorbed in the action, and before I know it, I’m as turned on as the characters I’m writing about. Of course, it can make for some interesting moments when I’m in a particularly passionate scene, and my underwear is wet from my arousal…
Kay: Too much information there. I don’t need the details. Is there anything else you would like to tell me?
Laiton: No, I think that covers it. Remember, the most important thing is having fun and exploring your desires. And, of course, to always practice consensual sex. That’s the key to a truly satisfying erotic experience.
Kay: One last question, if I may. Is there any sexual activity that you won’t write about?
Laiton: Hmm, that’s a good question. I think the only things I wouldn’t write about are actual non-consensual sex. While I do enjoy exploring the darker side of desire, I believe that consent is absolutely essential in any sexual encounter. So, no, I wouldn’t write about rape or any other form of non-consensual sex. In that statement, I include people under 18 and Animals, neither of which can legally consent. That’s just something I’m not comfortable with. Besides, I think it’s far more erotic to explore boundaries rather than to cross them.
You: Thank you for being so open and honest with your answers.
Laiton: Of course, Kay. I’m always happy to talk about my work and my views on sex. It’s an important topic, and I believe that by being open and honest about our desires, our mental health is better. And who knows, maybe one day, people will be able to explore their sexuality without fear of judgment or reprisal. A person can dream, right?
Kay: Thank you for giving me an insight into the person that is Laiton Knight.
